What data we collect

We only collect the data necessary to operate the app — nothing more. Here's a breakdown:

Account
Email address and username provided at registration. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we only receive the necessary identifier — we don't access your contacts or any other permissions.
Practice data
Your answer history, accuracy rate, practice duration, and custom session settings. This data is used to sync your progress across devices.
Subscription
Subscription status and purchase receipts. Payments are handled by App Store / Google Play — we never store card or payment account details.
Device & logs
Device type, OS version, and app crash logs. Used to diagnose issues and improve stability — not to track personal behavior.
We do not collect: Location data, contacts, microphone access (unless you explicitly grant it for the listening dictation feature), camera permissions, or any device data unrelated to learning.

02

How we use your data

Collected data is used only for the following purposes — never for advertising or sold to third parties:

03

Data storage and security

Your data is stored on servers owned and managed directly by the LazyCat Japanese team — not hosted on third-party cloud platforms. All data in transit uses HTTPS encryption, and stored data is encrypted at rest.

We retain your account data until you delete your account. After deletion, all personal data will be permanently removed from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Anonymous technical data such as crash logs is automatically deleted after a maximum of 90 days.

04

Data sharing and third parties

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. Below are the third-party services we use:

Apple / Google
Handle in-app purchases, subscriptions, and third-party sign-in. Subject to their respective privacy policies — we do not store any payment account information.
AI analysis
Used to generate question explanations. Only the question text is sent — no personal user information is included.
Crash monitoring
Collects anonymous crash reports to help us fix issues. Not linked to any personal identity.

05

Your rights

Regardless of where you use LazyCat Japanese, you have the following rights. These apply to EU users (GDPR), California users (CCPA), and users in other regions:

California users (CCPA): You have the right to know the categories of data we collect and how it's used, to request deletion of your personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell user personal information.

To exercise any of the above rights, contact us through the information at the bottom of this page. We will respond within 15 business days.

06

Minors

This app is open to users of all ages with no age restriction. Users under 13 should use the app with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child, we will delete it immediately.

07

Policy changes

If this policy changes in a material way, we will notify you in advance via an in-app notice or email before the changes take effect. Continuing to use the app after that constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

Previous versions will be available through an archive link at the bottom of the page.
